Happy 2013 Everyone

P.S. My youngest daughter asked me to post a video of her fave band......
so here it is.....(these boys are pretty cute and have my over active imagination writing stories about them)

I survived GRL and I liked it

Wow what a week it was.....I had no idea how much fun I was going to have, yes I was excited to be going, planned it for a whole year, and still was wasn't a hundred percent sure how it was going to be..........

It was amazing, absolutely amazing...........From the Hard Rock Hotel to it's friendly and helpful staff to the wonderful authors and publishers and the amazing GRL crew who worked their fannies off to make it what it was I thank you all from the bottom of my heart....

There is no way I could possibly name all the fabulous people I had the honor of meeting as it would take way too many brain cells to remember them all.......

I truly felt like I was among people who totally get each other...

We could talk about books and shows and porn stars and not have to say the word gay as if it were taboo....We could all laugh and crack totally inappropriate jokes and know the people around us could just get up and leave or join in with us....

I have never laughed so hard in my life....and I loved that the couples there could be totally open and affectionate with each other and never have to worry about homophobic assholes passing judgement......

To all of you authors I met and admire, thank you for making this a trip I will find a way to do every year!!!!!

To my new and old (but havent met in person until then) friends: NJ and Emily her daughter, Cherie, William, Kelly, Simone, Amy, Taylor, LC, Anne, MJ, Carrie Anne, Z, K-Lee, Erica Pike and Erica not-Pike heehee, Linda and Helen from Mississippi I will cherish every moment with you all!!!

This was such an amazing time and hopefully next year I wont act like such a fan-girl.............oh who am I kidding of course I will..........Jet Mykles may be hiding from me but that's okay it was so worth meeting her!!!

If you didn't get a chance to attend this year start saving your money, it will so be worth it!!!

Here's to Atlanta 2013

Two more weeks to GRL

Last night I was on the phone with a good friend and we were talking about how excited we are about GRL and how after months of being online friends we will actually meet in person for the first time. I realized this will be true for a lot of my good friends. One such friend I have know for over 5 years and we have yet to meet in real life, but that will all change in a couple of weeks. I can't wait!

She told me she had a list of the authors she wanted to meet and I jokingly said "Oh are you gonna walk up to them then scratch them off your list?" She replied that it was more of a mental list which I can completely relate to as I have one of my own. But if you're going to GRL and you see two 'crazy' ladies walking around with a list that could put Santa's naughty and nice list to shame, come say hi we would be thrilled to meet everyone there!

Until then I will be adding more names to my own list ;)

Saturday, September 22, 2012

I am beyond excited that GRL is just mere weeks away. Seems like it's been FOREVER that I started planning for it!!!

I can't decided if I'm more excited about getting away or meeting my fave authors or meeting all my internet friends................hmmmmm..............I think it's all 3!!!

It is gonna be so much fun putting faces to names......

just 3 more weeks....................hope to meet some of you there!!!

See you in Alb...uh Alb....**sigh** in the desert heehee!!

what? where? how? why?

What is going on?

Where the hell have I been?

How did I lose so much time?

Why haven't I posted in almost a month?

Yes these very questions I have been asking myself and I truly have no answers at least none I would post here......

Senility is an ugly thing..........Forgetfulness just as bad.............

Yes I will freely admit I have been a slacker...........hiding out in LaLa Land.........twitching my fingers instead of using them to write...................(insert) deep sigh...........

Okay enough of the has been a bit hectic but is finally slowing down and  I totally plan on taking care of all the things I promised to take care of.............#1 this blog...............So today I am posting a fun song tomorrow who knows maybe a blog story...............

Enjoy my friends.................

It's a Sign

So I have been working on several stories this summer...

The first one I have been playing around with for years, the second is the sequel to my Love is Always Right story and the third is for a submission call. So I'm working my not so little tushy off on the third story but something just doesn't feel right. For some reason I keep thinking back to my story, the one I've been working on and off of for years.

But I ignore it and put my nose to the grind stone, because I am determined to finish the submission story come hell or high water and then yesterday the unthinkable happens.

I hit the backspace button to erase a line I didn't like and the whole document just disappears!!! :o my panic I push the (don't save the changes) question and I lost the entire thing......Of course I haven't saved it anywhere else, because I'm stupid that way.................or am I?

While I stare at the laptop as if I can will the story to magically appear I start thinking about the story I'll never finish and like the proverbial light bulb my mind races with the possibilities that everything really does happen for a reason....

So I put my big girl panties (figuratively not literally) cuz ewwww......
I realize that Karma and Destiny are in my corner and literally screaming at me to finish that particular story........Oh and to never forget to save it to several places.......

Lesson 101 of writing!!

So here's to finishing this story and my sequel and may I never be so absent-minded again.......

Hey a girl can dream cant she??? We shall certainly see ;)

Thursday, August 9, 2012

I am frantically working a new story and haven't had much time for anything else....So today I'm just going to put up a nice little video by my most fave singer ever.....

A little Adam Levine to get me in the mood....

Now back to my sexy vamps heehee

Playing catch-up

Whew finally have a moment to sit down in front of my laptop and actually write something. The last few weeks have been a crazy roller coaster ride of "family" time. I have put off my "boys" to spend time with my real-life girls. My daughters have always been a source of such joy for me even when they test my patience on a daily basis. Being 16 and 20 this happens quite often. But they are also my friends and I enjoy watching the beautiful young women they have turned into.

So as I sit down and start back on my two stories I need to finish I send a little thank-you to the powers that be for the gift of my girls............

Now if they could just learn to pick up their rooms and bathroom all would be perfect in my world ;)

Olympics 2012

I love watching the Olympics, love watching the excited faces on the kids walking into the stadium smiling at the crowds. Its like nothing and no one can get them down. They have a chance to show the world how amazing they are. But it's the countries no one's heard of with maybe 3 or 4 athletes that I am most inspired by. No matter what they will compete for their country and make them proud.

The first Olympics I remember is Munich 1972 and watching Mark Spitz win so many gold medals. I also remember the tragedy too but don't want to go there. I definitely won't divulge my age at the time then I really will feel old. I have watched every one since then, have watched the countries with their oh so serious athletes who looked like smiling might break their faces. Have seen the Americans dominate just like the Russians and Germans. But what I really think I love the most is the Olympics now and how all the countries come together and cheer each other on. We even know the gay athletes who are out and proud. Talk about inspiration. And the kids with their cell phones out last night sending Insta-gram pics back to their homes. Tweeting what they were feeling to the entire world. And smiling....they all are smiling...How awesome is that?

This is what we need right now. People leaving their problems behind and coming together as one to cheer on the athletes they love. We could learn a lot from them.....

Go team U.S.A. and all the underdogs!!!!

My New Title

A few days ago a friend of mine called me a slacker in regards to my updating on my blog. Not that I would ever admit to this person that they are right, I chose instead to take the higher road and explain to them how I'm just not that exciting.....At least not enough to blog daily. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This explanation was not good enough for said friend.Yes, this person knows me all to well and can smell the bullshit from across the world (literally).

They said that excuse won't work this time.So I decided to finally give up on the excuses and go with what I know........

Why yes I believe the following definition could at some point or another be about me----

slacker [ˈslækə]
1. a person who evades work or duty; shirker

2. Informal
a.  an educated young adult characterized by cynicism and apathy
b.  (as modifierslacker culture

But I prefer to be known as this:

scrimshanker - a shirker

Sounds way cooler-------

So from now on you may all refer to me as:

Queen Embry Scrimshanker

Beholding Beauty by Sam Singer

A brand new book for y'all to check out, you won't regret it....

Craig Ryan’s modeling dreams crashed and burned on the streets of LA. Still, a man has to eat, and the escort biz pays well, and the sex isn’t bad. Actually, Craig enjoys his new job and benefits. That is, until a client called Dee hires him. Dee is a mystery. He keeps his face hidden and prohibits touching, even when touching his mouthwatering body becomes Craig’s fantasy.

Falling for a customer was never in Craig’s plans. But wrapped inside Dee’s peculiar requirements, there’s a sense of loneliness and pain that strikes deep within Craig, awakening his own need for something more—something with a future beyond one-night stands

The elevator stopped and opened directly into the luxurious penthouse; it was huge with an open floor plan, elegantly furnished, and smelled faintly of sandalwood and leather. The kitchen gleamed with top-of-the-line chrome appliances. There was a nicely sized, but not ostentatious, LCD television to the left of a fireplace surrounded by built-in mahogany bookcases crammed full of books. The floors were gleaming hardwood with beautiful, intricate Persian rugs here and there. On the coffee table was an array of magazines—Time, Newsweek, Men’s Health, GQ, The Advocate, and Details—along with a book of erotic male photography. The entire west wall was made up of floor-to-ceiling windows that provided a spectacular view of the city at sunset, and there standing in front of them, looking out, had to be his client.

He was big, not overweight, but tall, lean, and most likely muscular if the broad shoulders were anything to go by. His hair was to his shoulders, dark, brown probably, and thick. He looked to be impeccably dressed in dark slacks and shirt—silk, Craig guessed. Despite a couple of years in the escort business and being plenty jaded, Craig was intrigued. He wished the man would turn around. He’d love to see if the front was as appealing as the back.
“I’m Craig,” Craig said evenly.

“I’m Dee,” his client said in a deep voice, not turning to face Craig.

Craig took a few uncertain steps closer. “I hope I’m what you wanted.”

“You’re fine,” his client replied shortly.

Craig frowned and his brows knitted together in puzzlement. How could he think Craig was fine when he hadn’t even turned to look at him? The first tendrils of unease began to unfurl inside him. This guy was big, strong, and could easily overpower Craig. Not that Craig was a slouch, but he didn’t have the muscle mass his client seemed to under his expensive clothes, and this guy was at least three inches taller than him.

There was a low mechanical hum, and the curtains began to close over the windows, shutting out the weak light from the setting sun. A second later the television clicked on.

“Have a seat, Craig,” Dee said, motioning to the overstuffed suede sofa.

Craig swallowed and nodded even though Dee couldn’t see. He sank down into the plush sofa but kept Dee in his line of sight. The curtains closed completely, and the only light came from the glow of the television and the dim recessed lights in the kitchen. Craig didn’t like this, didn’t like not being able to see his client, not being able to judge his reactions.
“Do you have a favorite genre of film?” his client asked, moving away from the windows and over to sit beside Craig. Craig looked over at Dee but couldn’t really make out any facial features because of the dim lighting, and Dee’s hair was obscuring his face. It didn’t exactly make Craig feel better about this situation.

how can this be wrong

I found this picture today on tumblr and I thought to myself....How could this ever be wrong? All I see is a very happy couple....and nothing else is odd or weird or abnormal or "wrong" about them. The only thing abnormal or wrong are the homophobes who judge them.

This song says it all......................

Imagine a world free of Homophobia............It can happen if we all stand strong........TOGETHER

Hop Against Homophobia

First let me just offer a warm thank you to Erica Pike, NJ Nielsen and K-Lee Klein for asking me to participate in this awesome event. To be a part of something as huge as this is very humbling indeed.

I would also like to thank all of you for stopping my blog, hope you have fun while you're here.

If you leave me a comment your name will be entered in a drawing for a $25.00 Amazon Gift Card.

Okay now for the reason you are talk about Homophobia.......I don't even like saying that word....
To me it's right up there with racism, oppression, poverty, child-abuse, pedophilia, spousal-abuse, cancer and AIDS................words that need to be erased from our daily lives.............words that need to be in History books, dictionaries and online longer words we use on a daily basis...........

My hope is one day our future generations will think we were an idiotic society because they will know living in harmony and acceptance is so much better than the bullshit their ancestors did.

I will never know what it's like to be bullied by a homophobic person and I won't do the dishonor to the GLBT community by saying I do.  What I do know is racism, and hatred by people who I thought were my family, my friends.

See I am a white woman in a relationship with a man of color. I do not see the color of his skin, never have but instead I see what an amazing human being he is. I just never thought in 2012 I would ever have to deal with small minded people in my own family, but I have.

Let me clarify that though, because they are not blood relatives but they are my children's "other" family and were mine at one time.

For those of you who have teenage children, you know that as some point we cease to exist to them. But on occasion they do something that is so far off from whatever you ever thought they were capable of that it literally brings you to your knees.

My youngest who is 16 came home from a weekend from her dad's house absolutely angry beyond words. Thinking she was just being her usual drama queen self I didn't really make a big deal of it at the time. Later that night she came to me in tears and said she hated her grandparents and dad because they her words......"ignorant assholes who have no idea of how backwards they are" I was completely taken aback as she is very close to my ex's family, so I sat her down and we talked about what was wrong and she told me that her best friend in theater was a gay black boy that she absolutely adored. He is a senior and she is a freshman and she was sad that he would be graduating soon, so she shared her sorrow with her family. Now to let you know, my kids know what I write, who I date and I have raised them with nary a prejudice bone in their body, so when her family responded the way they did, to say she was devastated would be an understatement.

They told her she shouldn't be hanging around him because number one he was an "ignorant n..." yeah so not saying that word, then they said he was a pedophile because he liked boys..............I am absolutely speechless at this point......she was crying and she said "mom how can they feel this way, how could you put up with that for all those years?"

How does one answer that, this is my children's other family. I know what I wanted to say.......but I couldn't so I just calmly said..."unfortunately baby girl we can't pick who is family, who we are blood related to, but  what we can do is make sure that no matter what we never change who we are in our hearts....and who I see right now is an amazing young woman with a huge heart.  You keep being yourself and never let anyone try and make you feel what you don't.

Then her twenty year old sister stepped in and said, "Mom's right....who cares what color their skin is, or who they sleep with, who they love....Some people just need to look in the mirror and fix what's broken with their own damn selves and leave those who know who they are and what they want alone......My girls....damn I'm so proud of them.

I know my children will battle me from time to time and I'm okay with that. But I now know that who they are and how they feel is an extension of what I have instilled in them, or I'd like to think so. Maybe it's because of amazing people like all of you who fight against homophobia every day that has helped kids like mine see the way humans should all be.

Thanks for allowing me to share apart of myself today......This is what it's all about!!!!! Stand up and be Proud!!!!

Love and Peace to all

Shame on Embry

I know it has literally been weeks since I posted a new installment of my boys....I would like to spout a thousand excuses but honestly there are none, I just needed to get my head back in their world...And I think I have, so look for my next installment sometime this week, they deserve it, don't you think?

crazy days

I hadn't realized how long it's been since I posted until I got on here today. Wow! I have been really slacking. So I thought about what I could post and with a little help from my good friend NJ Nielsen decided to share with y'all what I've been up to.

So I picked the picture and prompt from Goodreads and wrote my story. It's now at my betas going through edits and I'm really very excited because other than some serious grammatical errors the story is being met with some positive feedback. I had no idea what all was involved in the writing process beyond actually writing the story. I would be lying if I said this wasn't exciting. I feel like a real author, something I have dreamed about for a very long time. I am also very grateful to the m/m group at Goodreads and the Love is Always Write event. I have many friends who are published authors who offered to beta this story and to them I am eternally grateful. This is so exciting and nerve-wracking and nail-biting and totally worth it. So until the day this is a reality I may be a bit manic but I won't disappear nor will my boys Aleron and Will....

Look for an update very soon.

Mood Music

What good story would be complete without "mood music" to accompany it? None of mine, in my opinion so for my continuing story of Will and Aleron I chose Gotye's "Someone that I use to know".....because well, Will he is a-changing and maybe he will be someone that Aleron used to know....sure hope not ;)

Needing Inspiration

Sometimes in our lives we hit t wall...
In our jobs
In our families
In our writing
In our lives...............

That's where I am.......floating in the middle of a stormy lake in the proverbial boat with too many oars.....but I'm working on removing those oars, one after another and getting back to the shore............

Now if you understand what I just said woohoo, if not I'll break it down.....I have taken on more than I can handle and I must prioritize and that's exactly what I'm doing....please don't lose faith, it shall all be worth it......

and for a little listening pleasure one of my fave songs

Update -Vacation - Will Recap

Finding Will Update and Recap---

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have been on vacation, as well as diligently writing my Goodreads story and haven't worked on Will and Aleron...

Apologies to all and a bit of a recap......

Finally my Angel got his man only to find out he may or may not be a the son of Lucifer himself. The much anticipated love scene was only marred by the fact that Will's eyes glared a demonic red..............or did they?

Guess you'll have to tune in this weekend when all questions will be answered.............maybe.......LOL

I just love a good cliffhanger, don't you?

Don't worry, it will all be worth the wait, I promise....

Love is Always Write

Well friends looks like I threw my hat into the ring over at Goodreads. I have taken the picture of two Lions and the prompt from a lovely lady name Cheri. I am super excited about doing this as I didn't get a chance to with their last event. So wish me luck and stayed tuned, and no worries I will still post my next installment for Will. After all I did leave you with a huge question...
Just who is Will's father?....hmmmmm

((hugs)) to you all....

Not Finding Will...Yet

Well this should be my weekly post for Will, and it really was until the "boys" decided they wanted to say more on tonight's post and I just couldn't keep up with them. Apparently they want a little more intimate scene between them, so I gave in and agreed, but now I'm behind a day. So bear with me and look for their post tomorrow, all I can say is they better make it a good one :)

Update on Finding Will

Due to my insanely crazy real life this week, Will and Aleron had to take a short break, but never fear they will return by this weekend. You can only put an Angel off for so long after all.....

Wonderful Thoughts

I was cleaning out my inbox this morning and came across an email a co-worker had sent to me a few months ago. She is sort of a religious fanatic so I rarely open them but for some reason this one called to me, and I'm glad I did open it. I took several lines from it to share with you all. Some of them are definitely worth the read.

    Do the right thing!
Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
Your Inner most is always happy. So, be happy.
What other people think of you is none of your business.
Try to make at least three people smile each day.
Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
     Don't overdo. Keep your limits.
Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
Don't waste your precious energy on gossip.
Dream more while you are awake.
Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don't hate others.
Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.
No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
     Smile and laugh more.
You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
Read more books than you did in 2011.
Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
     Sleep for 7 hours.
Take a 10-30 minute walk daily. And while you walk, smile.
For once I like what she had to say...

Have a great Monday

Football Fanatic

When I was about 15 years old, my dad sat me down one day to give me the "talk". Imagine my initial thoughts; "Oh My God...ewww, not that Dad" and,"Not with you, where's Mom?" most definitely, "This is the most embarrassing moment of my life, I hope my friends never find out".

My dad squirmed in his seat, clearly as uncomfortable as me, but at the time I was in middle of the worst of the teenage years and I knew my younger sister was hiding somewhere giggling, so my dad's discomfort took back seat to that. Thank God there was no you-tube back then. The mortification of that would have been tragic, retribution would have been swift.

Before my dad could start I blurted out, "Dad I already know about the birds and bees, we learned about it in Health Class." Back then it was taught by the football coaches, talk about the perfect birth control plan,  I still cringe when I think about the description of the female anatomy by a man old enough to be my own dad. I'm still scarred by his description of various STD's. ((shudder))

I remember the total look of fear on my dad's face and thought it was because I already knew, but boy was I wrong. As he sputtered and squirmed and turned beet red, his shiny bald head looked like a traffic light.

"Oh, uh, well that's good I suppose but not at all what I meant." He said as soon as he got composure.

I tilted my head in total confusion. "What did you mean then Dad?"

"Football." He said with total conviction, as if the very word should be explanation enough.

"Football?" Now I have had many moments of complete 'lost-in-space' in my life, but this one would definitely go down as one of the most memorable.

"Yes, football. I think it's time you watched the Pro games with your mother and I on Sundays and college games on Saturdays." Then he gave me that 'dad' look that said, "you will do this if you know whats good for you".

I wanted to blurt out, "Are ya fucking crazy?" of course I didn't because using that word back then would have meant death by hanging.

So I just meekly said, "Ok Dad". Yes I was a wimp but I also respected the man, and liked my freedom.

Up until this point in my life my Dad and I had the typical father-daughter relationship; he didn't get me I didn't get him, and we were happy with that. After that day everything changed and we got to know each other a whole lot better.

My mom would say it was important to like sports if I wanted a strong relationship with my future husband, my dad said it was to show I was capable of being his partner in every way. For me it was the beginning of a life long love of football.

My dad has been gone over a decade now, but not a Sunday from August to January goes by that I don't think of him in his Lazy-Boy yelling at the screen giving the guys his two cents.

I miss my dad everyday but I know he would be so proud to know that I am still to this day a HUGE Football Fanatic!!!

(He might however be a little squeamish if he knew I was mentally seeing some of the men in a torrid love affair with each other, I'll save that story for another day).

So for my dad, Go Texans!!!!

Inspirational Music

For Jamie and Corey and their Everlasting Love

Friday, January 13, 2012

As this day draws to an end i kinda wondered where in the word the superstition came from. Why it seems to be the most popular of all superstitions. I for one will turn my car around if a black cat runs across my path, I never open an umbrella inside and walking under ladders...major no-no. But all that aside, why is 13 considered an unlucky number and why does Friday make it worse? Well being the curious person I am I did a little investigating and found some interesting things that I am going to share...

                                                     The (un)Lucky Number  13

1. There are 13 steps leading to the Gallows
2. There are 13 knots in a hangman's noose
3. 13 feet the guillotine blade falls
4. 13 people at the last supper
5. Lizzie Borden is said to have uttered 13 words at her trial
6. There were 13 original colonies
7. The 13th card in a Tarot deck is death
8. Apollo 13 in 1970 was the 13th mission and was aborted after a fuel explosion, it left the launch pad at  13:13 on April 13
9.  Never change your bed sheets on Friday you will have nightmares.
10.Visiting the doctor on Friday will bring bad news
11.More accidents happen on Fridays
12.Witches favor Friday for their covens to meet
13.Clothing made on Friday will never fit.

Now I don't know if all those things are true, but I did only list 13 things heehee

Personally I like Fridays because I have two whole days to write and the number 13 has always been lucky for me....

Hope your Friday the 13th was better than those things I just listed ;)

Sunday not Funday

Have you ever had one of those days when your brain completely shuts down and nothing but an endless tunnel of darkness stretching over the horizon of moronic thoughts takes over? Well, if you understood any of what I just said, your one step ahead of me. That is how my day has started out. Like I've just gotten back from having a root canal and the Novacaine has worn off, and your not drooling like a dog, but your head is still in that fuzzy state. You can't write a decent sentence or remember what words to use, and the simple spelling of everyday words has completely escaped your thought process. That is my day! So I thought if I wrote this down and went back later to read it I would realize how complete ridiculous I sound and my brain would kick into gear and my muse would fire up her engine and help me get my shit together. Or I could bang my head on my desk, and get my brain cells moving with a huge caffeinated drink. I think I'll go with the drink.

Here's to a better Sunday afternoon...Oh football is on maybe I'll get inspired by hot hunky sweaty men...

Post Xmas Pain

Let me first start off by saying I am a major procrastinator. Yes it's a god-given talent that I am very proud of. Many things in my life could have gone horribly wrong had I not been a master procrastinator. But, and there is almost always a "but", this is the one thing I have to force myself not to procrastinate on; taking down the dreaded Christmas decorations. Yes I know it's 2 weeks after Xmas and 1 week after the New Year, but sometimes real life gets in the way and you have to put off certain things...Did I mention I'm really good at making lame ass excuses too? Hee-hee, anyway I should really be writing today, watching some football-major fan-not wrapping Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph up together in newspaper where they will be "joined" for another year. Ohhh, I see a story there, **sigh** no I will not be distracted, I will get this done. I must get this done. So I must say farewell for now, but never fear good people, I will be back once I stuff Santa back in the closet! Damn there I go again with the plot bunnies....
